Why we use Teaching Textbooks

Hello parents and students. We hope you have been enjoying the year so far!

We have had some questions from parents about why we use the home school curriculum Teaching Textbooks. Because this is a home school curriculum parents have been saying that the children aren't getting the teacher attention that they normally would with a normal math textbook.

So why do we use this program for students in grades 3-12? First off, it is self grading, leaving more time for teachers to create lesson plans, grade homework and plan lectures. This program is helpful for students to learn self-Independence as well. With teaching textbooks, students can learn how to take responsibility for their own work, and not always have to rely on on teachers.

We also think that teaching textbooks is more in depth and easily understood by students than a math textbook. Real life situations and humor are used in the lessons to create lessons that students will remember.

We have looked at many programs including Math-U-See, Mammoth Math and many others and have come to the conclusion that Teaching Textbooks covers the most content, the most understandable, interesting, and rigorous way.

So yes, we have thought about the fact that it is a home school curriculum. But that fact is no reason not to use it in a school setting. Using the information in the program teachers create worksheets for homework, additional lectures for students that aren't understanding, and whiteboard equations for before students dive into the lessons.

And yes again, teachers do help students with the program. There are still "Math Teachers" and students are not left un monitored with computers for an hour. As students progress into higher and harder grades, the independence level rises while the assistance level falls, but we can assure you that this is planned and well thought out.

In the Primary section students are guided through almost every part of each lesson. In the Middle School students get more independence with their lessons, but are still guided and watched closely by the teachers for trouble with lessons and such. In the High School students are expected to ask for help if they need it, as teachers don't pay as close attention to slowness in working.

We hope this helps ease your worries about your child's education and we assure you that we are giving them the highest possible math program that we have seen.

Have a good week,
